Have you ever taken a good look around your space and suddenly realized you’ve developed an unexplainable love of something and carried out that love to an unnecessary degree? Well, a recent survey of our two-bedroom abode revealed the following: No. 1: I have an unhealthy obsession with white ceramic containers; and No. 2: I love, love, love an adorable tweeter. The ceramic de-clutterers will have to wait for another post. This ones for the birds.
Although I feel as if the feathered menagerie developed overnight, it’s been a flock in the making for some time. Many moons ago (three years-ish, to be more exact) when the hubs and I first were married and started decorating our apartment, we discovered our first birdies on a trip to Target. They were adorable, wooden guys with sweet little faces, and we agreed that we had to take them home. (This was before Ella was born; clearly we were pet parents without a fur baby to love yet.) Best of all, the three little birds were a rich teal color, which happened to match our decor at the time. So three little birds. That’s all we had; that’s all we needed. Little did we know, an obsession was brewing.
During the past three years, we’ve added quite a few bird babies to the household. I still can’t put my finger on what makes them so irresistible. Jared and I are certainly not bird people. Don’t get me wrong; we love to see pretty outside birds. And we like Cardinals baseball. Woo hoo! But the idea of real live indoor birds makes both of us a little uneasy. And grossed out.
So why do we keep buying the bird paraphernalia? I suppose faux-bird love is like many of life’s greatest wonders — curious and unexplainable. For now, we’ll keep on keepin’ on with our feathery obsession. Thankfully, no real feathers are involved.
Without further adieu, here’s an introduction to some of our flock:
Henry, Claire and George (We name things. No biggie.), our first birdies. They started out as teal, but once we jumped on the loving-things-in-white bandwagon, a paint job was in order. Three quick coats of white glossy paint later, and they feel brand new. Everyone can use a little sprucing now and then, right?
Jersey, brought to us from the fine state of New Jersey. This chubby little guy was a steal from Crate and Barrel for $4.95. He’s made of cement, and we love the fun texture he brings to the room.
Continuing on with the love of all things white, I found this gem at Pier 1. The bird motif was a bonus. Sadly, this one remains nameless.
Another Pier 1 snag. I grabbed four of these puppies for a total of $19.98. Hooray for a good deal! They’re happy and usable, and that pop of yellow is hard to beat.
So how about you? Do you find yourself surrounded by a love of all things feathered? Are there any motifs you can’t get enough of?
XO,
Katrina
