Salt Lake City bound

Well, I’m hitting the road, Jack, and heading to Utah (woo hoo tah!). My friends Amber and Daniel left Columbia for Salt Lake City in May, and they’re expecting their first baby in February. Sooooo exciting!!! So I’m heading out to their neck of the woods for a long and lovely weekend of nursery decorating and Salt Lake City-ing before the baby bean comes along. Eep!

I’ve only been to Salt Lake City once before, and it was just a stop through the airport on our honeymoon, so I’m pretty pumped to hang with pals and see the city (though I’ll be missing Jared and Ella, who are staying home to man the fort). And because I love any excuse to assemble a list, I’ve jotted down a few must-sees for the weekend:

Hatch Family Chocolates: Have you ever seen The Little Chocolatiers show on TLC? The title chocolatiers own and operate Hatch Family Chocolates in Salt Lake City. So it’s chocolate and reality TV all wrapped into one. Score!

IKEA: The nearest IKEA to Columbia is 331 miles away in Bolingbrook, Ill., so any chance I get to browse room after room of streamlined loveliness is A-OK with me.

Les Madeleines: Earlier this year, Jared and I got hooked on the Food Network show Best Thing I Ever Ate, and in one of the first episodes we watched, the Neelys (Patrick and Gina, y’all) talked about the yummiest, flakiest, most buttery little pastry we’ve ever laid eyes on. It was called the Kouing-aman from Les Madeleines bakery. I must eat one. Maybe two. Amber can roll me home.

So that’s my starter list. I’m sure Daniel and Amber will fill me in on other happenin’ spots in their fair city. And if any of you Salt Lake City-ers have fun suggestions, please let me know! I’d love to hear them!

And I’m off! Here’s hoping I see some snow on the mountains and bump into David Archuleta at the airport. He says “woo hoo” quite often on Twitter, so I’m pretty sure we’d be BFFs in no time.

XO,
Katrina

IKEA! Just went to IKEA to acquire teacups and saucers (and a water pitcher, and a storage chest, and plates, and drinking glasses, and a shelf, etc…*begins to sing* “We are living / In a material world…”). Have lots of fun in Salt Lake City, and be sure to eat the meatballs + lingonberry sauce.

Haha! Yes, IKEA is the good stuff (as is a solid Madonna reference). My brother and his wife live in Dublin, and they’ve told some pretty funny stories about hauling boxes upon boxes of things to the bus so they could get it back to their flat. Thanks for the dining tip! I’ll keep an eye out for the meatballs!

Have a great time! Enjoy eating the chocolates and Pastry. Make sure to take pictures so we can all enjoy the experience vicariously….wait, I think I smell the chocolate now!

Thanks, Rhonda! I’ve got my camera charged and ready! And my tummy is ready, too. 🙂
