Remember that adorable porcelain snowflake ball from Target that I bought on a whim and then realized I had nowhere to put? Well, it has found a home for the holidays (Perry Como-style) and on my beloved IKEA candlestick no less! The mix between the silver candlestick and the steely gray ball is pretty striking (come to think of it, the combo would make a great color palette for a room: silver, gray, slate and white. Ooo la la!). And I love how the light plays off both smooth and shiny surfaces.
I’m pretty jazzed about little Snowball’s new perch, but the lovely locale didn’t come without some trial and error. We actually tried him in a few places. First in our tweet-tastic white tray on the coffee table, but he looked pretty sad all by his lonesome.
Then we tried popping him into a glass cylinder vase/candleholder, but there was too much wobbly business going on (not to mention the snowflake ball looked a bit like a caged animal).
Finally we landed on the perfect spot for our latest holiday décor item, much by chance (just like his entrance into our family. Aww.).
Really, it was a stick-it-here-for-a-sec-while-I-figure-out-where-to-put-it kind of thing, which just goes to show that no household item should be limited by its intended purpose. Sure we have one less candleholder for the chilly months ahead, but our cute snowflake ball has a place of honor. That’s a happy compromise if ever there was one.
Have you ever repurposed an item just for decorative kicks like the ol’ candleholder switcheroo we just pulled? Any favorite new uses for old knick-knacks? Do tell!
XO,
Katrina
