Remember those puzzles on the kids’ page of the Sunday newspaper that asked you to “find the differences between the two panels” or “what’s wrong with this picture?” I loved that stuff (I also loved those egg-cellent egg jokes the Kansas City Star used to run; that’s some pretty priceless material if you asked me). Well consider this photo a grown-up follow-up to those much-loved games of yesteryear. It’s a snapshot of a semi-recent Crate & Barrel catalog (in case you were wondering about the not-so-awesome picture quality). And here’s the question: What’s wrong with this picture?
Did you find it?
What are those platform heel, summer sandals (summer as evidenced by the woven texture and white trim) doing in a room all decked for the holidays? Doesn’t that seem mega weird? Because I had extra time on my hands on the day of this discovery (or perhaps because I’m loopy), I came up with two possible explanations for this catalog faux pas:
1. This photo for the winter catalog was taken in the summer, and the prop stylist, frazzled with mass amounts of work and simultaneous photo shoots, threw her own shoes into this shot at the last minute for an added punch of believable hominess, all without thinking about the seasonal nature of her chosen footwear.
2. This photo is making a deliberate statement about the nature of the holiday season, with the summer shoe and winter décor proclaiming that the Christmas spirit should be with us all year round.
How’s that? Do you have your own theory about the catalog photo? Or do you think I’m just nuts? Wait, don’t answer that last one.
XO,
Katrina
