I was flipping through the October issue of Real Simple a few nights ago (happy, happy times, I assure you) when I came across a story all about throw pillows. Now forget the fact that I was already won over by the mere mention of pillows (I have a bit of an obsession — as in, every closet in our house contains at least four extra not-being-used-at-the-moment pillows that I switch out on occasion); an entire story on the merits of couch/chair/pillow accessorizing is pretty genius in my book. The story actually got my eye for another reason. In the middle of the article, on a page of pillows deemed “ethnic prints” sat a square of bold purple loveliness that looked strikingly similar to the pillows I made for the Bean’s room last month. Check it out!

Turns out it’s the exact same fabric I bought at Jo-Ann’s earlier this summer! Crazy, right? And here’s the even better part. The ready-made pillows sell for about $70 a pop. My homemade version? About $10. I’d say that’s money well spent — and money well saved. Woo to the hoo for that!
Have you scored any great looks for less lately? Home décor? Clothes? Super snazzy art? Let’s hear it!
XO,
Katrina

Whoo to the hoo, indeed! My latest fun revelation is when I hit one of the last Borders going out of business about a week ago. I just popped over and saw the sign read “last day.” As I went through the door, I saw a sign that read “everything 2 for $1,” and then that was crossed out to read, “4 for $1.” I couldn’t imagine there would be anything I’d be interested in at this point (I’m not a Harlequin romance reader), but lo and behold, there were books of interest to me. At .25 each, I spent almost $8 (which is a load of books). When I got home, the receipt showed, “You save $668.47.” I’d say that’s a pretty good deal.
Another time (long, long ago), I bought this beautiful tapesty-like blazer at a designer discount store (as I recall, it was about $25, tops)…in an odd shade of dusty teal and mustard yellow (sounds atrocious, but it was lovely actually). About a year later, I saw a promo ad for the show “Designing Women.” (Yes, it was THAT long ago). Mary Jo Shively (played by Annie Potts) was wearing MY blazer! So that dates me…this was probably 1990 (the show ended in 1993). I saved the magazine ad and I still have it. It was fun to see a celebrity wearing MY jacket! And I still have that jacket!

Wow! Your deals put mine to shame! That’s amazing! Isn’t it funny how easy it is to get a kick out of seeing something you own on TV? I saw one of my fave cardigans on a show earlier this year and felt like a mini celebrity. Oh, the simple joys in life.:)
